It drives me crazy when people make comments like, "My wife doesn't work, she just stays at home with the kids." Excuse me?? If running a household and raising responsible, healthy and well-adjusted children doesn't qualify as work, I am not sure what does.
Fortunately, every year Salary.com comes out with an assessment of the dollar value of a mom's work. This year, they estimate that if a stay-at-home mom charged the going market rate for all of her services (driver, maid, personal shopper, laundry maven, etc.) she would earn approximately $137,000 and a mom who works outside the home would earn an additional $76,000 on top of her regular paycheck. These numbers are higher than in years past, reflecting the new economic reality that has more moms doing more chores themselves in order to save money.
Every mom is a working mom -- kudos to us all!
