As
any mom knows who has tried finding a new babysitter or the inside scoop on the hottest schools in town,
getting the "best" information is more about who you
know than what you know.
Likewise in the career world, networking is a critical ingredient
of long-term success. But whether you’re a working mom, an
entrepreneur or a stay-at-home mom, finding the time to
establish and maintain contacts can be a difficult challenge.
Fortunately,
technology has made it easier then ever to stay in-the-loop,
reconnect, and make valuable new contacts. Thanks to the
explosion of blogs, websites and networking services, you can
stay connected 24-7, even if you’re feeding your baby with one
hand and typing with the other. Below, I’ve listed five great
resources for online networking:
Corporatealumni.com:
Are you looking for a way to contact your old boss? This site
connects you to people from your former employers. Renew old
work friendships, generate new business and increase visibility
for yourself or your projects. If your old company is not
currently listed, you can still register and they will let you
know when a group is formed.
Classmates.com:
Wouldn’t it be fun to discover what happened to your old
high-school flame? At classmates.com, you can find your buddies
from your high school, college and military years.
LinkedIn.com:
This is an online network of more than 5.2 million experienced
professionals from around the world, representing 130
industries. When you join, you create a profile that summarizes
your professional accomplishments. Your profile helps you find
and be found by former colleagues, clients, and partners. Your
network consists of your connections, your connections’
connections, and the people they know, linking you to thousands
of qualified professionals.
Meetup.com
: Like the old town green, you can use this site to find other
people in your local community who share your interests or
causes. Locate other home-based working moms, full-time working
moms or even moms of autistic children (among many other groups)
and then go meet them in person.
EZBoard.com:
The largest online network of discussion boards available on the
Internet. You can join an existing board or start your own.
Thousands of topics to choose from.
