How to Find Jobs That Make a Difference in the World

Many of my clients are interested in finding careers that help them to make a difference in the world. As one of my clients, a former advertising agency executive, put it, "With all the work that needs to be done to repair our world, I just don't care about selling bowls of cereal anymore."

If you've been considering finding a more "purpose-filled" career, you might enjoy knowing about these sites:

Philanthropy Careers: The Chronicle of Philanthropy's career website. Considered to be the nonprofit world's No. 1 source of news, commentary, and facts and figures. Some information does require a subscription.

Foundation Center: The Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. grantmakers and their grants. They also operate research, education, and training programs designed to advance philanthropy at every level.

Guidestar.org: Register for free access to information on 1.5 million nonprofits. Excellent database of information on organizations and online job board.

Deep Sweep: Links executive to job listings in the non-profit arena.

Association of Small Foundations: Lots of my clients seem to prefer working for small companies. If you're looking for opportunities with a small foundation, this site is worth a look.
